World Amateur Radio Day — WARD

On April 18, 1925, the IARU (International Amateur Radio Union) was founded. Every year this event is commemorated worldwide with the World Amateur Radio Day. USKA and Swiss radio amateurs celebrate by activating the association callsign HB9WARD on that day.

Operation is carried out by interested operators — individuals or groups and clubs — from their respective locations. If outsiders can also be informed and motivated about amateur radio during the activations, all the better.

Participation Requirements

When: April 18 (annually)

Bands: All bands according to the licence, including WARC. Special stations may operate on WARC, only contest operation is not permitted.

Modes: Phone, CW, Digital.

Maximum power: according to Swiss legislation.

Activation of the callsign HB9WARD

Interested radio amateurs with a QTH in Switzerland can activate the callsign. Registration at hb9ward@uska.ch with the following details:

  • Callsign of the operator / club
  • QTH (locator, canton, postal code)
  • Time slot (day, from–to; in UTC)
  • Band and operating mode

A confirmation with logging information is sent. The goal is to be active on as many bands and modes as possible. Only one station may be QRV per band and mode at any one time.

Award

An award is issued. European stations need 3 QSOs on 3 different bands, DX stations need 2 QSOs on 2 different bands. QSO confirmation is exclusively via LoTW. No E-QSL or QSL via bureau please.

For the award, please send your log extract to: traffic@uska.ch
